Doctors point out that it is almost impossible to completely avoid allergens, but it is possible to significantly reduce their amount in the environment. Here are some effective ways:

1. Limit your pet’s access to the bedroom

The bedroom is a place where we spend a lot of time, so it’s worth keeping it free of allergens. Don’t forget to change your bed linen regularly and wash it at a temperature no lower than 60°C: this destroys most proteins and bacteria.

2. Use air purifiers with HEPA filters

Such devices help trap the smallest particles that cause allergies. HEPA filters effectively clean the air of hair, dust and even pollen, so they are particularly suitable for people who keep animals.

3. Wash and comb the animal

Regular bathing (once every 1-2 weeks) reduces the amount of allergens on the pet’s fur. Use delicate shampoos specific for allergy sufferers. It is also worth combing the pet outside so that hair and fur particles do not settle at home.

4. Clean the floor and furniture with a damp cloth

Dry vacuuming only spreads allergens into the air. Use microfiber cloths or a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter. Clean not only the floor, but also curtains, upholstered furniture, carpets. Once a week it is also worth cleaning the surfaces of the walls and corners where dust accumulates.

5. Choose easy-care furniture and fabrics

Leather or eco-leather furniture, washable upholstery and low-pile carpets reduce the number of places where allergens accumulate. Fewer fabrics in your home means less dust and dander, which means fewer symptoms.

The importance of medical care

If symptoms persist or worsen, you should consult an allergist. A doctor can perform a skin test or blood tests to identify the exact allergens. In case of a strong reaction, antihistamines, nasal sprays or even immunotherapy are prescribed – a long-term treatment that helps the body gradually get used to the allergen.
