1. Basenji
The Basenji is a real special case: he can’t bark at all! Instead, he makes his yodeling or whining sound – but barking? Nobody. This is due to the special shape of its larynx. 2. Golden Retriever
A piece of gold among dogs! Golden Retrievers rarely bark and do not have a strong alert behavior. You will hear them from time to time, but much less than other dogs. With a little training you can reduce the barking even further.

4 tips to avoid or stop excessive barking
Have you already found the partner of your four-legged dreams, but is barking becoming a problem? This can be annoying not only for you, but also for your neighbors. Here are four simple tips that can help you:
1. Teach the “Be Quiet” signal.
Teach your dog to be quiet when given a specific command. Use a clear sound to get his attention, then say «Be quiet» calmly and clearly. As soon as he stops barking, reward him with a treat or a kind word.
⚠️ Important: never scold him! This will only upset him and make the barking worse.
2. Relaxing music
When you are not at home, music can help you. Silent background music and drawn curtains reduce external stimuli: your dog can relax and perhaps even fall asleep.
3. Understand why your dog barks
Every dog barks for a reason. Is he bored? Lonely? Not sure? Once you figure out why he’s barking, you can address it more specifically. If you can’t get anywhere on your own, a dog school or trainer can help you.
4. Play and practice
A tired dog is a calm dog. Play with him or go for a walk before leaving the house. After that he will be more willing to take a nap than to bark.
