How does dog sterilization work?

Sterilization of the bitch is performed laparoscopically. Optical systems and thin manipulators are used during operations. The biggest advantage of laparoscopic sterilization is extremely small surgical incision (up to 2.5 cm).

During the operation, carbon dioxide is injected into the abdominal cavity, which lifts the wall of the abdominal cavity, creating enough space to examine the organs inside the abdomen and perform diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

When there is enough gas in the abdominal cavity, special surgical equipment is introduced through incisions of 1-2.5 cm. The entire image during the operation is monitored through a small camera installed in the surgical equipment and a telemonitor in the operating room.

Sterilization of dogs is also performed without a laparoscope, when the ovaries and uterus are removed through an incision in the abdomen. This operation is usually a little more complicated during the healing process, a larger incision is not made, depending on the weight, breed and number of litters of the bitch.

The cost of laparoscopic sterilization

The cost of laparoscopic sterilization in veterinary medicine depends on several important factors. First of all, the equipment and technologies used have an impact.

Laparoscopic surgery requires special equipment because the procedure is performed using small incisions and cameras that allow a precise view of the area to be operated on. Such equipment is not only more expensive, but also requires special skills from the veterinarian, so the higher price of the procedure is related to the qualifications of the specialists.

The second important factor is the weight of the animal. For large animals, such as large breed dogs, the operation may require more time and resources, so the price may be higher. In modern clinics, where the latest technologies are used and experienced specialists work, services may cost more.

Finally, the costs of post-operative care are added to the final price, which may vary depending on the animal’s state of health and condition, weight and treatment needs
