- Lean meat: small amounts of turkey, chicken or lean beef are fine, but avoid ham, as it is too heavy for your puppy’s digestion. Never give your dog meat that contains chicken bones or bone-in ham, as these may cause splinters.
- Legume: Raw or cooked vegetables such as broccoli, carrots or asparagus or green beans can be great snacks. If your guests really want to give the puppy some small treats, suggest they start with the ones from the vegetable plate. However, if they contain spices or sauces, they should be avoided. Pepper, pumpkin or sweet potatoes will also be eaten with pleasure by the puppy.
- fruit: You should always remove the seeds from the fruit, as they can be toxic or cause blockages (for example, a peach pit stuck in your throat). Oranges contain vitamin C, but should be taken with caution as they are acidic and can irritate the stomach. Banana, melon or watermelon are great for the puppy. Grapes (and raisins) are not suitable for puppies, because they can cause more or less serious pathologies: vomiting, intoxication, abdominal pain, kidney failure. Avocado also contains a substance that is very toxic to puppies.
- Starch products: Potatoes, rice and bread should only be fed to puppies in very small quantities. Also avoid giving them sauces that contain starch. All of these are difficult for the dog’s digestive system to digest.
- Lactate: Puppies may like milk, but the milk consumed by humans is different from the milk that puppies suck from their mothers. The lactose present in cow’s milk makes it difficult to digest and, if administered in excessive quantities, can cause diarrhea. Instead, you can give the puppy some full-fat yogurt.
