History of Cats Child
The word «Bambino» means «child» in Italian, and this breed was named for its short legs and lack of fur. They are the result of crossing the Sphynx cat, with the recessive hairless gene, and the Munchkin cat, with the dominant gene for short legs.
The development of these cats has caused much controversy. Although some people appreciate the breed’s unique appearance, Bambino cats are thought to have a higher chance of health problems.
The first generation of Bambino cats was registered in 2005, so it is a very new breed, but one that is rapidly growing in popularity. The intentional cultivation of genetic deformities, as in the case of Munchkin cats, has divided people, even experts.
On the one hand, the International Cat Association has recognized the Bambino as an experimental breed. On the other hand, the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) and the American Cat Fanciers Association (ACFA) have not accepted this breed because they do not want to encourage the breeding of genetic anomalies for aesthetic reasons.

Caring for Baby Cats
The Bambino breed has many characteristics in common with the Sphynx and Munchkin breeds. In addition to their unique appearance, Bambino cats also win over some people with their personality. These cats tend to be very affectionate and full of character.
Bambino kittens are known to be very playful and love company. They are not the type of cats that can be left alone regularly for long periods. They are best suited to homes with calm children or other animals as they are very sociable and friendly.
Despite their short legs, Bambino cats are surprisingly energetic and agile. You will need to ensure that the cat has constant access to toys or other forms of cat entertainment. This will keep the cat occupied and may prevent behavioral problems resulting from boredom from developing. However, their shorter legs may tire more easily and they will not be able to jump as high or far as a long-legged cat.
Some people like the Bambino breed because they believe it is a hypoallergenic breed. While it is true that these cats are much less dangerous to people who suffer from allergies than other cats, they still have fine fur. This could be a problem for people with allergies.

However, Bambino cats require much more care than a normal cat. Precisely because of the lack of fur, cats are colder and their skin can be injured more easily.
Hairless cats are also more prone to sunburn. If you want your baby to go outside, make sure you have cat sunscreen on hand or that it’s not a very sunny day. It is best to keep these cats indoors.
Because they have no fur to absorb excess oil, their skin is usually much oilier. This means that cats are much more prone to developing skin problems such as bacterial infections. Unlike normal cats, these will need regular bathing to keep them clean.
Health problems
Being such a new breed, not much is known about possible hereditary conditions. However, it is safe to assume that Bambino cats are prone to developing some of the problems found in Sphynxes and Munchkins. These health problems mostly stem from the way they were raised. This is what makes them so controversial.

Skin Conditions: As already mentioned, the Child, like the Sphynx, is prone to developing bacterial skin diseases and infections. This results from their inability to regulate the skin’s sebum and increased number of folds.
Lordosis: This is a condition that can occur in any cat, but it has been found to be more prevalent in Munchkins, the short-legged breed. The spine is excessively curved inward and this puts pressure on some vital organs. This condition can be fatal in some cases.
Excavated chest: This is another condition that has been found to be more prevalent in Munchkin cats. The condition occurs when the sternum and ribs grow unnaturally and the cat’s sternum appears buried in the chest. This condition can have a serious impact on your cat’s quality of life, causing a variety of problems, including breathing problems, loss of appetite and weight loss.
Diet and nutrition
All cats need a quality diet and Bambino cats are no exception. They are carnivorous animals and their food must be rich in proteins, developed specifically for cats.
Advantages of the breed
- Bambino cats are playful and affectionate
- Due to their lack of fur, these cats may be suitable for people with allergies.
- Gets along well with children, dogs or other cats.
Disadvantages of the breed
- Potential health problems.
- They can be noisy.
- Hairless skin needs more attention and care.
Where can you adopt or buy a Bambino cat?
Kittens are still quite rare and you may have to wait on a long waiting list or travel a little further to buy a kitten.
Be sure to read up beforehand. Due to the increasing rarity and popularity of Bambino cats, it is easy to come across unscrupulous breeders ready to take advantage of them. Puppies from these types of breeders may have several potential health problems and most likely have not been properly socialized or cared for.
However, this does not exclude the possibility of adopting a cat. You most likely won’t find a Bambino cat, but there are many healthier breeds with equally loving personalities just waiting to be adopted.
