You really are the biggest fan of cats, one thing you might not like is waste. Fortunately, there are many solutions for hiding this unsightly pet accessory. By creating a hidden litter box, you can prevent waste, unwanted odors and clutter in your home and give your cats a private place to do their business.
We love our cats and we know you do too, so it was no surprise when we discovered some original ideas for handmade litter box furniture. We feature our favorite projects along with some tips for making the most of this kitty space. Only what’s best for our feline friends, right?
Create a «chic» arrangement around the litter box door
This is a recycled furniture project that will become modern, elegant, clean and perfectly suitable for a litter box. If you have an extra one in your house (or have found at the flea market) a two-door cabinet, in which the litter can fit, all you have to do is cut a side entrance through which the kitten will access the litter. The cabinet doors allow you to clean effortlessly waste.
By using paint that matches the rest of the room and some strategic placement, you can be able to transform an old laminated box into something much more home- and cat-friendly.

Place the litter in a large wicker basket with a lid

I think you’ll agree with me when I say that waste containers are an «eyesore» most of the time. No matter how many sandbox designs you try, it’s almost impossible to look good in your room decoration.
A good idea is to place the unsightly litter in a large storage basket, made of woven wicker, which can be accessed through the top lid. The wicker idea is nice because it’s easy to move around while cleaning and it’s airy. All you need to do is cut out the carrier to provide cat access and add a discreet cat door in the cutout you create.

Build a mini-house around the litter box
Another brilliant idea, if you are handy enough, is to turn a small cube-shaped wooden chest into a house. From two pieces of plywood arranged in the shape of the letter V you will get a roof. So all you have to do is cut out an entrance to the house, and if you also draw a circle-shaped shape with two pointed ears, you will get a very fun door, in the shape of a cat’s head.
For better ventilation of the carrier, you can also create small slits in the roof of the house through which the air will circulate better. Paint everything white and you will have a very cute mask waste to your pampered kitten, which will also become a decorative element inside your home.
The litter box hidden in the cabinet under the sink
Most likely, at least one of the sinks in your home (if not the bathroom one, at least the kitchen one), is located above a piece of furniture intended to mask the entire installation below. There’s enough room for your cat’s litter box too, all you need to add is a discreet opening on the side for your cat to enter. On the closet door you can attach a small hook to hang the shovel or other necessary utensils and, depending on the space, you can also store the litter bag there.

Another idea to aesthetically improve the area litterinvolves placing it in a large box, with one side open for access. From here, your imagination does everything. If you are talented, you can draw various cat models on it. Or simply a zigzag of cheerful colors. Above you can place a vase with grass for the cat, and you will get a cheerful and useful corner.

Remove the drawers and install a swinging door
Repurposing an old piece of furniture is one thing, but giving it a completely new function is another. When looking for old furniture to repurpose and transform into a cat letter mask, opt for pieces with plenty of interior space.
You can find, for example, a small cabinet with drawers, which by «magic» will become a hiding place for the letter, eliminating two or three drawers and adding a hinged door. The larger door makes cleaning the litter box a much easier process. Then sand it down and give it a coat of paint to match the rest of the furniture, and you’ll have a place that only you and your cat will know what it’s for.
Install a cat flap in the side wall of the closet
The easiest way to hide a sandbox is to look for furniture you already own but could split up. Therefore, you can «sacrifice» the bottom shelf of the hallway closet and hide the litter box in it. Of course, to make it fit, you’ll need to cut an entry in the side wall cat door. Make sure the port in question can be installed on a thin panel.

Wrap fabric around a coffee table
It’s one of the simplest projects, as long as the table is large enough to accommodate waste beneath her. Then it all depends on your imagination. Depending on the rest of your home decor, you could for example use black spray paint for the coffee table and use off-black striped fabric around it. The fabric can be put on an elastic band, so it can be easily removed and put back on.
Use the inside of a bench with storage space
You can use this bench with storage space cutting an opening in the space of one of the drawers. It is a perfect hiding place for the litter box, but at the same time it is a useful piece of furniture in the entrance.
